Hey everyone, I appreciate the recent interest in the blog. I regret to inform you all that I cancelled my Netflix subscription in late Jan, when it no longer was becoming useful for me on the basis of cost and time. I'm afraid Netflix has embraced "throttling" for just about every customer subset in some sense of the word.

Nonetheless, I'll be moving to Indianapolis soon and will start up a likewise blog down there by early summer.

However, this is a blogger account and I can add individuals who want to post their experiences with the Lansing Distribution center. If you'd like to have posting access just ask and I'll get you on!

Until then, I'm reading comments, but busy, busy, busy (also a reason Netflix has died for the time being).

Rating movies in the queue.

I found an interesting variation between two accounts. The top image is a new account and it lets you rate movies in the queue. The bottom one to the right is an older account and it does not let you rate movies in teh queue. Any ideas why this is like this? I prefer the version on the top..

Lansing Netflix shipped three movies for next day delivery out of my one day old account.. Something that hasn't happened on my older account for over a week and a half.

Movies were:

Plan 9 from Outer Space
Shadow of a Doubt
Ossessione

Fairly consistent waits across acounts.

Comparing my two accounts, one in extremely heavy usage, recently changed to 5-out, and about five months old to a brand new account I've found an interesting thing out initially. The movies which are Long Waits in my heavily used account are also Long or Short Waits in the new account. This was very surprising to me. Apparently, at least for now, being a new user doesn't get you that golden first come first serve status.

It will be interesting to see how turn around time compares between these two accounts over the next few weeks.

Deuling Accounts

I have signed up for another account and will be running them side by side out of the Lansing distro center for the time being. If I get better service on the new one I will cancel the old one and cycle back and forth between them to get the best service. I'll keep you updated.

Incredibly long turn around time (12 days)

Either the Lansing Distribution Center did not have Marnie or they are further derailing me. Returned a movie to free it's slot up on 1/7, they received/proccessed 1/11, did not ship until 1/12, will not arrive until 1/18. We're now looking at over a week turn around time...

If this continues through the end of the month I will cancel my account and sign up with a different email/credit card with the hopes I'll get that "we want you as a new customer" service.

Next day not same day ship.

Returned a movie today, the next movie, Marnie did not ship the same day (Tue). Instead it is set to ship Wed. This makes for the 5th DVD in a row that Netflix has done this to me.

Early Jan 2005 Service.

I switched to the 5-out plan and instantly my service went from stellar to not so good. Movies would generally take 1 day to arrive, would be checked in that day, and a new movie would be mailed that same day. Now movies are sitting at the Lansing Netflix Distribution Center for a day until they are checked in. Also, movies are taking an extra day to ship. That is, a movie received Thr does not ship Thr, but rather Fri. Furthermore, it seems that the Lansing center has less availability recently. I have been getting a lot of movies from other centers, thus taking longer time.

Before the New Year turn around was one day there, one day back. Now it's more like two days there, one-two-three-four days back.

Does this have to do with a bunch of new subscriptions for Christmas? I'm not sure. Will keep you updated.

Lansing Netflix Distribution Center

The purpose of this blog will be to track the activity (from my viewpoint) of the Lansing, Michigan Netflix Distribution Center. It seems that sometimes service is great, sometimes it lags. While I was able to find far reaching sites like Hacking Netflix and NetflixFan I was unable to find sites that detail the activity of one specific center. Hopefully this will serve as a resource to tell how the Lansing, MI Distribution Center is doing.

I will post how fast my movies are turning around and post anyone elses who sends me email or posts a comment in this blog.
